Ira William “Bill” Bryan

Ira William “Bill” Bryan, age 77, of Byer, passed away Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017 at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He was born Oct. 8, 1939 in Jackson County, Ohio to the late Walter W. Bryan and Loretta E. Leach Bryan.

Bill was a 1957 graduate of Coalton High School. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War who retired from the military with 22 years of service to his country. In his later years, following 22 years of dedicated employment, Bill retired from General Mills in Wellston where he was employed as a maintenance man. He was a member of the American Legion Post 371 of Wellston, the Jackson County Am Vets and the Jackson County Disabled American Veterans Chapter 45. Bill enjoyed playing card games of all types, especially euchre and poker; hunting, watching NASCAR racing, wrestling and western movies on T.V., and enjoying time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Wanda M. Sorrell Bryan; children, Ginny Frisby of Wellston, Ira William “Buddy” Bryan, Jr. (Ann) of Wellston and Lori Byler of Nelsonville; grandchildren, William Edward Bryan, Brittany Bryan, Caitlyn Byler and Jake Byler (Amber); step-grandchildren, T.J. Hafer, Christina Miller and John Starr; brother, Myron Bryan of Wellston; sister, Katie Goff of Ray, along with 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Brandon Bryan; sister, Diane Sickles; and his step-mother, Amy Bryan.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home.
