Darrel “Dean” Flaker, age 81, of Jackson, Ohio passed away Friday, April 13, 2018 at his home. He was born Jan. 23, 1937 in Jackson, Ohio to Glendon “Dutch” Flaker and Grace Gahm-Flaker.
Dean was a 1955 graduate of Jackson High School. He was also a retired employee of Jackson City Schools. Through the years he served as a long-time 4-H advisor, was on the Farm Service Agency Committee, and was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He also served on the Scioto Township Volunteer Fire Dept., was a Scioto Township Trustee, and was also a Scioto Township Democratic Committeeman. He belonged to both the Scioto Valley Antique Power Association and the Teays Valley Tractor Pullers Association. In addition, he was a member of the Soil and Water Conservation Board and was a 58-year member of Trowel Masonic Lodge #132.
Dean is survived by his wife, Myrna Flaker; son, Steve Flaker; daughter, Trudi (Pat) McDonald; and granddaughter, Hannah Grace McDonald.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, April 15, 2018 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 16, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Bill Goodall officiating. Burial will follow at Hanna Cemetery.
