Chester Adkins

Chester Adkins, age 88, of Oak Hill, passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Heartland of Jackson. He was born January 20, 1928 in Oak Hill to the late Cecil and Clara (Radabaugh) Adkins.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Gertrude Adkins; son, Lawrence (Brenda) Adkins; grandson, Chester D. (Rebecca) Adkins; step great grandchildren, Brianna (Michael) Mollett, Sarah, Aaron, Emily and Destiny Young; brother, Cecil Foster (Teresa) Adkins; sisters, Louise Simpson, Zelma Clarkson, Marilyn Downard, Viola Chesser, Thelma (Jim) Evans, Wyoma Hatfield and Rita (Weldon) Myers.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Oscar and Vencil Adkins and sister, Ellen Reese.

Chester was a member of the United Baptist Church of Pine Creek in South Webster, Ohio. He was baptized in March of 1961 and ordained an elder in 1972. He was moderator of several churches of New Hope Association as well as assistant moderator of New Hope Association of United Baptist. He was a United States Army Veteran of WWII and also a retired carpenter and farmer.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, September 10, 2016 at the United Baptist Church of Pine Creek on Lick Run Lyra Rd in South Webster, Ohio with Elder Isaiah Vance, Elder Theodore Evans and Elder Lawrence Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery in Oak Hill, Ohio. Friends may call Friday, September 9, 2016 from 4-8 PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill.
