Swaney, Sr."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Carl E. Swaney, Sr., age 91, of Jackson, passed away Monday, July 15, 2019 at the Adena Pike Medical Center in Waverly, Ohio after three recent hospital stays.&nbsp; He was born in 1928 to the late Herman and Letha (Jenkins) Swaney.&nbsp; He was the grandson of Vermont T. Swaney of Richmond Dale.&nbsp; He was a member of the Forrest and Field Draft Horse and Mule Association.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carl was known as the \u201cOx Man\u201d because he raised and trained oxen in Southeastern Ohio.&nbsp; He displayed them at fairs and festivals all over Ohio.&nbsp; He was Scioto Township Trustee for 24 years.&nbsp; Carl and his oxen broke the ground for the first Bob Evans Restaurant in Chillicothe, Ohio.&nbsp; &nbsp;Titles Carl wore were \u201cOx man\u201d, trustee and special deputy Sheriff.&nbsp; He also hauled the Amish.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carl was married to the late Carol E. Swaney in 1945.&nbsp; Together, they moved to County Road 22, better known as Cove Rd in 1948.&nbsp; There, they raised their family on their 150-acre farm, raising oxen, cattle, horses, mules, goats and chickens.&nbsp; Carl was a devoted son, husband, father and grandfather.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is survived by his friend, Bonnie Dennison; daughters, Connie Jean (Russell) White and Melody Ann (John \u201cEd\u201d) Rose; grandchildren, Brian Carl (Emily) Swaney, Donald Lee Swaney, Kellie Jean (Shane) Dawson, John Edwin (Tasha) Rose III, and Christina (Bobby) Hively; great-grandchildren, Bailey and Tanner Reed, Bryce, Chloe, and Addison Dawson, and Kenadi and AshLynn Rose, John E. Rose IV, and Aubrey Rose; special daughter-in-law, Ruth Swaney as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins, Wilbur and Roger Swaney and friends. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Carl E. Swaney, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Grace Ellen McCoy and Betty Blamer; and brothers-in-law, Elwyn Blamer and Wendell McCoy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Friends may call Thursday, July 18, 2019 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Lewis &amp; Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson.\u00a0 Funeral services will immediately follow the calling hours at 3 p.m.\u00a0 Burial will follow in Hanna Cemetery.\u00a0 Online condolences may be sent to\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lewisgillum.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">www.lewisgillum.com<\/a><br><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Carl E.
