James “Jim” Harrison Smith, Jr., age 65, of Oak Hill, went to be with the Lord on Dec. 6, 2017 surrounded by family and close friends at Riverside Hospital from a battle with brain cancer. He was born April 15, 1952 in Chillicothe to the late James H. Sr. and Dorothy (Bloom) Smith. <\/p>\n
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Ann Sorrells and a brother-in-law, Jeff Keppner. <\/p>\n
Jim was a member of the Church of Christ of Latter Day Saints in Jackson and a member of the U.S. Air Force. He retired from General Mills of Wellston after 35 years. He was also former Scout Master of Troop 42.<\/p>\n
He is survived by his wife, Kay (McGowan) Smith, whom he married on Aug. 25, 1979; daughter, Janice (Steve) Hughes, of Oak Hill; grandchildren, Kayla (Scott) Bartram, of Portsmouth and William (Grace) Swords, of Wellston; great grandchildren, Skylar Ann Bartram, Justine Noel Swords, Collin James Swords and Noah Lee Stacey. Also surviving are his two sisters, Kathy Keppner, of Galloway and Marie Smith, of Chauncey; a former son-in-law, William Swords and a special grandson, Adam Kamer. <\/p>\n
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11, 2017 at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill with Elder Bryant Wolford and Pastor Dave Steiger officiating. Burial will follow in C.M. Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. <\/p>\n
