The 1886 Jackson County Chattel Tax assessment was extracted from the lists that appeared in the Jackson\u00a0Journal newspaper. Keep in mind that this is a chattel tax list and is thus more\u00a0comprehensive than just a land tax list.\u00a0These lists are also important because there is no 1890 regular Federal census for\u00a0Jackson county due to the fire which destroyed those records many decades ago.\u00a0Thanks go out to Sandy Fackler, Tom Tripp, Cynthia Dalton, and Anthony Coyan\u00a0who transcribed these lists from the newspaper articles.<\/p>\n
