Velma Hatten

Velma Jean (Sparks) Hatten departed this life and entered Heaven on Friday, May 21. She was born in Strickland, Kentucky on January 8th, 1938 to the late John and Laura (Caver) Sparks.

As a child the family moved from Kentucky to Ohio. She was raised on the farm and graduated from Jackson High School in 1956. In June of that same year, she married Frank A. Hatten Jr. and had five children. She was a loving mother and homemaker.

She is survived by her children, Gloria (Brian) Johnson, Jeffrey Hatten, Janet Trent, and Frank A. Hatten III, all of Jackson, Ohio; sisters and brothers, Pauline Fraley of Jackson, Ohio, Harold (Jeana) Sparks of Dover, Delaware, Susie Martin of Beaver, Ohio, Linda (Les) Daniels of Chillicothe, Ohio, and Jay Carolyn Sparks of Beaver, Ohio; grandchildren: Kelly Bowan, Ryan Trent, Nicole Hatten, Cassie Hatten, and Caleb Johnson; and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Frank; her son, David Hatten; and siblings, Bill Sparks, Nancy Clements, and Debby Karr.

Friends may call Tuesday, May 25 from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery.
