Sylvia “Janet” Newkirk

Sylvia “Janet” Newkirk, age 82, of Jackson, passed away Jan. 10, 2020. She was born on March 10, 1937, the daughter of Jack Brown of Wellston and Olive (Richart) Brown of Jackson.

Janet is survived by her husband of 63 years – George Alfred Newkirk. To them were born five children: George Newkirk, Jr. (Connie) of Nappanee, Indiana, Harold Newkirk (Alice) of Jackson, Allen Matthew Newkirk (Lorinda) of Lady Lake, Florida, Leona Newkirk (Melvin) of Jackson and Sherry Carriveau (David) of Jackson.

Janet’s family also includes 17 grandchildren: Jeremy Newkirk, Clint Newkirk, Gina Roa, Damon Stapleton, Seth Newkirk, Sarah Lawhorn, Lora Boggs, Tyler Newkirk, Michael Newkirk, Amanda Lauderback, Brittany Glassburn, Molly Storms, Millie Pierce (deceased), Cassie Essman, Dominique Carriveau, Carson Carriveau, and Brea Carriveau (deceased). Also there are 19 precious great-grandchildren.

Janet is survived by nine sisters and brothers: Francis Burt, Gloria Brown, Becky White, Jenny Butts, Paul Brown, David Brown, Cary Brown, Wayne Brown and Linda Nickell.

She was preceded in death by five brothers: Jack, Norval, Richard, Everett and William Brown, and one son-in-law, James Pierce.

Janet loved children and children were always drawn to her and adored her. She was a very kind, humble, beautiful soul. She loved taking long walks, spending time with grandchildren, listening to “old time” country music, bird watching, painting ceramics, and admiring her flowers that grew in her yard. She will be terribly missed by all. We love you forever and for always.

A family memorial gathering is being planned to be held in the near future in lieu of funeral services. Janet is to be buried at Salem Cemetery.
