By | January 4, 2021

Shirley Ann Walburn Wortman was born July 14, 1935 and on Jan. 2, 2021, Shirley succumbed to her battle with cancer after 18 months, outliving her prognosis by a year.  She starts the new year, and her 2nd life, with her late husband, Jimmie A. Wortman, and her parents Tom and Lydian (Hamer) Walburn.

She is survived by her two children, Kip (Sara) Wortman and Amy (Len) Deluca. Also waiting to join her are very special cousin, Jean Ann (Jim) Claflin and Jimmie’s cousin, Bobby (Barbara) Harper, “a sister I never had” according to Shirley. Dewy was blessed to have five grandchildren, all born one year apart.  Shirley was given the name Dewy, which she loved, by her oldest and only granddaughter, Mandy Deluca. Next in line were Matthew (Brandy) Wortman, Clayton Wortman, Michael Deluca and Tyler Wortman.  Additionally, she leaves her two brothers, Larry (Kathy) Walburn and Brad (Michelle) Walburn, both living in Wellston, Ohio, her childhood home and where she graduated from Wellston High School in 1953.  She leaves her special dog, Haddie, who as she said, “is living in a great home with Jean Ann and Jim”. While residing at the Woods of Polaris, she was an active member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, and was a volunteer with Saint Ann’s Hospital, Inniswood Metro Gardens and Woods of Polaris garden team.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 16, 2021, at 12 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston, Ohio with Pastor John Pelletier officiating.  Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Burial will follow in the Ridgewood Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Franklin County Dog Shelter in her honor.  The family would like to offer a special thanks to Comfort Keepers, especially Stephanie, Donna, Rene, Lisa, Jaye, Melissa, and Charlena for their love and help in her last couple of months. And last but not least, her guardian angel Tish Miller from Heartland Hospice.  Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.mcwilliams-funeralhome.com
