Samuel Howell

Samuel O. Howell, 89, of Wellston, passed away on Friday, July 23, at the Holzer Medical Center in Jackson. He was born on May 12, 1932, in Auglaize County, Ohio, son of the late Roy and Ruth (Yoder) Howell. Sam was a very simple, friendly man who never knew a stranger. A Christian by faith, he greatly enjoyed helping others. He loved fishing, enjoying morning coffee and driving the backroads, taking in the beauty of God’s creation. He will be missed by all that knew him.

He is survived by his family: children, Mike Howell, Joe (Lynn) Howell, Kevin (Heather) Howell, and Vicki Funk; 9 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and many friends. In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Ann (Smith) Howell; his son, Alan Howell; as well as one granddaughter and two great-granddaughters.

The family will receive friends at R.M. Williams Funeral Service, 120 W. Broadway St., Wellston, on Tuesday, July 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., where a funeral service celebrating Sam’s life will follow beginning at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery beside his beloved wife.
