Ron E. Dunn

Ron E. Dunn, 73, of Dublin, passed away March 14, 2013 at the Kobacker House surrounded by his loving family and friends, following a brief illness. He was born on July 7, 1939 in Oak Hill, Ohio to the late Edwin and Cordelia (Jenkins) Dunn.

Ron faithfully served his country in the U.S. Navy and became a Columbus police officer where he served the community for 13 years. Ron became a KFC franchisee in 1978 until his retirement in 2009. He received his pilot license in 1980, which was one of his major life accomplishments, along with owning his own plane. Later in life Ron enjoyed fishing, and boating on “The Colonel” at Buckeye Lake. He enjoyed visiting the Shawnee Cigar Shops with his friends, and enjoyed walking his beloved dogs “Sophie” and “Sassy,” along with being a big Ohio State Buckeye fan. Ron will be remembered as a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and a man who had major influences on a lot of people he loved.

Ron leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Donna (McCain) Dunn of Dublin; children, Scott (Kris) Dunn of Youngstown, and Dena Frere of Dublin; brothers, Larry (Lois) Dunn of Oak Hill, Ed (Lynda) Dunn of Cairo, Ohio and Paul Dunn of Oak Hill; sisters, Peggy (Bob) Blair of Columbus, and Marsha Walton of Lewis Center; grandchildren, Andrew Dunn of Columbus, Tyler Lowe of Grove City, and Zachary Bennett of Mt. Vernon; great-grandchildren, Brayden Dunn and Brooke Dunn; along with several nieces and nephews.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; son, Todd Dunn; sisters, Janice Moore, Kay Dillon and Betty Osborne; and brother, Bill Dunn.

The family would like to thank the staff at Kobacker House and the seventh floor at Riverside Methodist Hospital for their compassionate care for Ron.

The family was to receive friends on Saturday, March 23, 2013 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Rutherford Funeral Home at Powell, 450 West Olentangy Street, Powell, OH 43065, ph. (614) 792-1471. (The funeral home is located on W. Olentangy St./Powell Rd./SR 750, 1/4 mile east of Sawmill Parkway.) A memorial service was to be held Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Rutherford Funeral Home at Powell with Pastor Peggy Forby officiating.
