Robert Wallace Smith

Robert Wallace “Wally” Smith, age 95, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Holzer Assisted Living in Jackson, Ohio. He was born on March 16, 1919 in Harveyton, Kentucky to the late Robert Smith and Hester (Pigman) Smith.

He is survived by his sons, Kenneth R. and Irene (Bates) Smith, Jimmy D. and Carol (Beatty) Smith, Gene and Robin (Kight) Smith; and daughter, Brenda G. (Smith) and Michael Leeth. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Audrie “Susie” Smith; two brothers, Eugene and Gilmer Smith; one sister, Retha Smith and one great-grandchild, Chase Stewart.

“Wally” was a member of the Trippieville Baptist Church. He was a long-time barber at the Gibson House Hotel in Jackson, Ohio. He loved riding horses, gospel and bluegrass music. He loved poetry, composing many poems himself. As a teenager, he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps in order to support his family.
