Robert Lee “Bob” Yates

Robert Lee “Bob” Yates, age 87, of Wellston, passed away Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017 at Jenkins Care Community in Wellston. He was born Sept. 25, 1929 in Napoleon, Ohio to the late David S. Yates and Esther Dawson Yates. He retired from Columbia Gas where he was employed for 35 years and was a former member of the National Guard.

Bob, a jokester, enjoyed fishing, coin collecting, old cars and watching western shows on T.V., especially Gunsmoke.

Bob is survived by his wife of 50 years, Violet Brooks Yates, whom he married on April 15, 1967; children, Sandy Thomas (Jim) of Bidwell, Cathy Swartz of Middleport, Bobby Yates (Norma) of Bidwell and Jackie Exline (Rick) of Wellston; sisters, Dorothy Hunter of Jackson and Evelyn Scarberry of Lancaster; along with seven grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his son, Randy Yates; brother, David Yates; and sisters, Katherine King and Helen Williamson.

Calling hours will be Monday from 12 to 2 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will follow the calling hours at 2 p.m. and burial will be in the Elk Cemetery in McArthur. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.mcwilliams-funeralhome.com
