Rita L. Braley

Rita L. Braley, age 93, of Wellston, passed away Friday, May 3, 2019 at Kobacker House in Columbus, Ohio.  She was born at home on the family farm on Sept. 6, 1925 to the late Stanton Edward Braley and Geneva Massie Braley. 

Rita graduated from Wellston High School in 1943, and then later continued her education at Rio Grande College, where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.  Following her graduation from high school, Rita worked at the Munitions Factory in Chillicothe making gun shells. 

After World War II was over, she opened Braley’s Book and Gift Store on Ohio Avenue in Wellston, while at the same time taking classes to finish her studies in education.  Once she received her degree, Rita taught the sixth grade at both Hamden Elementary and Beaver Elementary, for a total of 35 years.  Rita also served as Clerk for Milton Township for 20 years.  She was a member of the former E.U.B. Church in Wellston, and then later attended Trinity United Methodist Church.  She served as the church treasurer for both churches for several years. 

Rita is survived by her family, Jerry and Christy Massie of Wellston, and Jennifer Massie (Wes Morgan) of Hilliard; her faithful companions, Buddy, Pixie and Callie; along with several cousins and close friends. 

Besides her parents, Rita was preceded in death by her brother, Jimmy Braley. 

Calling hours will be Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston.  Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor Susan Keeton officiating.  Burial will follow in the Ridgewood Cemetery.
