Rex M. Johnston

Rex M. Johnston, age 81, of Wellston, passed away Monday, April 20, 2020, at the Divine Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility in Sylvania, Ohio.  He was born July 28, 1938 in McArthur, Ohio, son of the late Delbert McKnight Johnston, Sr. and Phyllis Eileen Nelson Johnston. 

Rex was a 1956 graduate of Wellston High School and a veteran of the United States Air Force.  He was an Ohio State Highway Patrolman for several years and was also a former telephone repairman for Cincinnati Bell, from where he retired.  Rex was an artist who enjoyed painting, woodworking and crafts. 

He  is survived by his children, Valerie Simmons of Colorado, and Todd Johnston (Andie), Amy Sisovsky (Jerry), Jay Johnston (Tammy) and Jon Johnston (Patty), all of Michigan; sister, Diana Johnston Formyduval (Edward) of Wellston; brother, Delbert Johnston, Jr. (Kim) of Wellston; along with 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Besides his parents, Rex was preceded in death by his wife, Sue; and siblings, Delberta Johnston Cline, Donald Johnston, Ronald Johnston, Lewis Johnston, Mac Johnston, Eileen Littlejohn, Mary Johnston, Sue Patterson, Jack Johnston and infant sibling, Hilah May Johnston. 

In keeping with Rex’s wishes, his body was cremated and private burial will be at the convenience of the family in Ridgewood Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston.  Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.mcwilliams-funeralhome.com
