Pearl R. Marcum

Pearl R. Marcum, age 99, of Wellston, passed away Monday, July 13, 2020, at the Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio.  He was born Nov. 2, 1920 in Coalton, Ohio, son of the late Pearl R. Marcum, Sr. and Leva Turvey Marcum. 

In October of 1945, at the age 25, Pearl started working for DT&I Railroad. He continued working for 36 years until his retirement at the age of 62 in February of 1982.  Pearl enjoyed many outdoor activities in which he was very competitive, including horseshoes, croquet, cornhole, softball and volleyball, to name a few.  He loved to sing, especially church songs, and you couldn’t leave from visiting without singing a song with him.  He attended the Rt. 327 Holiness Church.

Pearl is survived by daughter, Linda Sickles (Clifford) of Wellston; son, Dwight Skeans (Carol) of Lakeland, Florida; grandchildren, Rick Robson (Dawn), Tammy Fyffe, Shawn Jenkins (Michelle), Randy Robson, Shellie Somerlot (Fred), Stacie Jones (Terry), Scott Skeans (Sherre) and Shannon Skeans (Dana); as well as 17 great-grandchildren, 29 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Lillian Skeans Marcum; infant daughter, Leva Marcum; daughter, Janet Sickles; and sisters, Hazel Malone and Marty Wallace. 

Calling hours will be Friday, July 17, 2020, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston.  A celebration of Pearl’s life will follow the calling hours at 1 p.m. with Pastor Dwight Skeans officiating.  Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
