Mona Jane Reynolds

Mona Jane Reynolds, age 82, of Jackson, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, June 9, 2016 at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. She was born May 31, 1934 in Portsmouth, Ohio to the late Melvin E. Phillips and Blanche Viola Finn Phillips.

Mona was a 1952 graduate of Wellston High School and a graduate of the Portsmouth Beauty College. She was the former owner and operator of Mona’s Beauty Salon and Merle Norman Studio. Mona was an avid shopper, who enjoyed also being a homemaker and continuing to be a lifelong hairdresser. One of the most important things in her life was spending time with her large family and many close friends.

Mona is survived by her son, John Eric Reynolds of Austin, Texas; two sisters, Louella Jones of Jackson and Joan Bush (Willis) of Jackson; six nieces, Jeri Allie (Jim) of Gallipolis, Brenda Anderson (Dan) of Grove City, Cindy Stewart (Jerry) of Jackson, Julie Fannin (Greg) of Jackson, Amy Hawkins (Allen) of Raleigh, NC, and Jody Mullins (Jerry) of Jackson; 15 great-nieces and great-nephews, 21 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; sisters-in-law, Ethel Short, Vera Tedrick and Evelyn Steinberg; brothers-in-law, Tommy Reynolds, Edwin Reynolds and David Reynolds; and a host of friends, including her dear friend, Joe Newman of Wellston.

Besides her parents, Mona was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Reynolds; sister, Donna Jean Phillips; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ernest and Lucille Reynolds, and brothers-in-law, Gerald “Buddy” Jones, Walter “Wig” Waugh, Gene Reynolds and Marvin Reynolds.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 12 to 2 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will follow the calling hours at 2 p.m. with Pastor Jerry Mullins officiating. Burial will be in the Ridgewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions in Mona’s honor be given to the Good Shepherd Wesleyan Church, 10595 Chillicothe Pike, Jackson, Ohio 45640.
