Mildred L. Davis, age 96, of Jackson, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Holzer Hospital, Gallipolis, Ohio. She was born on Oct. 30, 1919 in Jackson County, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gomer E. and Gladys (Griffiths) Davis; three brothers: Waldo L. Davis, Leland K. Davis and Thomas M. Davis; and one sister, Doris Swingle.

She is survived by sister, Janice M. Davis and several nieces and nephews.

Mildred attended Bloomfield Elementary School and graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1938. She attended Bliss Business College in Portsmouth for two years and was hired by Mr. Chet Richards, Manager of the Jackson County Farm Bureau Co-op, where she was a loyal employee for 44 years. She retired from the Landmark Co. in 1984.

Mildred was a lifelong faithful member of the Vega United Methodist Church and served as treasurer of the Vega Church Building Fund and the Vega Cemetery Fund for many years. She never missed her Bloomfield High School Alumni annual reunion and wanted to attend this year but was not able. Mildred was blessed with excellent health and her longevity was attributed to her enjoyment of walking, especially to and from her work-place for many years. She was often teased by her family and close friends about her love of a “Mt. Dew” every day.

For the past ten years, Mildred had been a snow-bird, spending the winter months in Sun City Center, Florida. It was there where she enjoyed the love of her life, her adopted Shih-Tzu dog, “Bucky.” Mildred was a quiet lady, but the example she set forth in her life speaks loudly and she was highly respected by her family and friends.

She was a beautiful lady and was known for her sweet spirit and radiant smile. She brought joy and fun to everything she did and to everyone she knew.

Friends will be received at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home Saturday, June11, from 4 to 8 p.m., where funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 12, at 3 p.m. with Pastor John Rozewicz officiating. Burial will follow in the Vega Cemetery. Condolences may be emailed to www.mayhew-brownfuneralhome.com
