Merrill Eugene “Gene” Geer, Jr., age 76, of Wellston, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, from the Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis, Ohio. He was born May 19, 1945, in Columbus, Ohio to Merrill E. Geer, Sr. and Pauline R. Kisor Geer. Gene graduated from Wellston High School with the class of 1963. He was a self-employed truck driver for many years and eventually retired from Chapman Trucking. Gene was a very humble, sweet and kind man who loved laughing and making others laugh. He also loved cowboy hats, cowboy boots, string ties and working and tinkering on old cars and tractors in his garage. Gene always enjoyed attending tractor shows, car shows and scooter shows with family and friends. He was a faithful Christian who was a member of Fire Church in Wellston. Gene was also a member of the NRA.

He is survived by his mother, Pauline Geer; wife of almost 18 years, Linda Johnson Geer; children: Jeff Geer (Sally) and Shannon Whetstone (Larry); grandchildren: Matt Geer and Haley Geer; stepchildren: Annie Burnem, Richard Moore and Dale Moore; sister, Billijean Wright; sister-in-law, Carolyn Geer; along with five step-grandchildren and several aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Gene was preceded in death by his father, Merrill Geer, Sr.; former wives: Karen Geer and Jeannett Geer; sons: Jerry Geer and Ricky Geer; brothers: Wesley “Buster” Geer and Terry Geer; brother-in-law, John Wright; and nieces: Wendy, Leslie and Kristi.

Calling hours will be Monday, November 29, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral services will follow the calling hours at 2 p.m. with Pastor Dave Collins officiating. Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery.
