Melissa A. Hill

By | January 21, 2020

Melissa A. Hill, 43, of Jackson, passed away on Monday, Jan. 20, 2020, at her home following an extended illness. She was born on Oct. 14, 1976, in Gallipolis, Ohio, daughter of the late Jack and Virginia (Johnson) Smith. A nurse by trade, Melissa was a very giving person who would go without to make sure her boys could have. She enjoyed collecting Longaberger baskets, travelling, camping, picnicking, and visiting the beach.

Over the last 12 years Melissa has fought a tremendous battle with brain cancer. Initially, the doctors thought she would only have a couple of years to live. Because of her faith in God, and tenacious drive, she defied all odds and persevered for much longer, enabling her to raise three wonderful sons. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband, David; sons, Cody, Noah, and Nick; brothers, Jack (Betsy) Smith, John (Shari) Smith, Jim Smith, Rick (Laura) Smith, Jeff (Tammy) Smith, and Joe (Corinna) Smith; sisters, Darlene Griffith and April Hill; special niece, Jessica (Caleb) Reed; as well as other nieces and nephews, Rachael, Dakota, Elisha, Hannah, and Rebecca.

A funeral service celebrating Melissa’s life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of R.M. Williams Funeral Service, 120 W. Broadway St., Wellston. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery, Jackson.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, Jan. 24, 2020 from 5 to 8 p.m.

David wishes to express his sincere thanks to his sister Debbie for all of her help, love, and care that she has given to him and Melissa over the last couple of months.
