Mary W. Hood

Mary W. Hood, age 100, of Jackson, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2012. at Four Winds Nursing Facility, Jackson. She was born in Jackson, Ohio, on December 11, 1911. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Ray Hood; her parents, Lawrence P. and Tillie (Geiger) Will; two sisters, Frances Stiffler and Grace Davis, and a great-grandson, Adam Mercer.

Mary graduated from Jackson High School (last graduating class at Kinnison School) in 1930. She was the oldest living graduate from Jackson High School and the oldest member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church. She owned and operated the Hoods’ florist shop for 40+ years.

She is survived by one daughter, Roxie (Kenneth) Mercer; three grandchildren, Pam Evans, David (Renee) Mercer and Lori (Bruce) Shaffner; two great-grandchildren, Hannah (Nathan) Kitts and Holly (Kyle) Hickey; and two great-great-grandchildren, Addison and Ace Hickey.

Mass of Christian burial was held Saturday at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Arrangements were under the direction of the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home.
