Mary Heath-Garthee

Mary Heath-Garthee, age 56, of Jackson, Ohio, passed away Sunday, October 7, 2012 at the SOMC Hospice Center in Portsmouth, Ohio. She was born April 17, 1956 in Fleming-Neon, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Edward Heath and Lucille Tolliver-Heath. Mary was a 1974 Jackson High School graduate where she enjoyed being a member of the choir, a member of the youth group at Bethel Ridge Church, a huge Ohio State Buckeye Football fan, and a huge fan of the Jackson Fighting Ironmen football team.

She is survived by her husband of 19 years, Chuck Garthee; son, Zane Garthee; sisters, Ellen Heath Johnson of Provo, Utah, Agnes (Willis) Tolliver of Wurtland, Kentucky, and Violet Craft of Arkansas; brother, Larry Tolliver of Letcher County, Kentucky; special cousin, Robbie (Angie) Tolliver of Jackson, Ohio; mother-in-law, Gloria Norris of Jackson, Ohio; sister-in-law, Tammy Garthee of Garden City, Michigan; brother-in-law, Richard (Kim) Garthee of Coalton, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who loved her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Mason Blake Garthee; brothers, Floyd and Roy Heath and Douglas Adams; and sister, Louise Heath.

Mary and Chuck have actively supported their son, Zane, throughout his school years by volunteering at Westview Elementary and proudly participating with the Jackson Marching Ironmen where Mary served as Band Booster Secretary. Mary’s favorite gospel song was “I’m So Glad I’ve Got a Better Place to Go.”

Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at the Bethel Ridge Baptist Church in Jackson with Pastor Richard Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday, October 9, 2012 beginning at 4 p.m. and continuing throughout the evening, as well as Wednesday until the time of service. Arrangements are under the direction of the Cox Burkitt Funeral Home in Beaver, Ohio.
