Mary Elizabeth Whitt

Mary Elizabeth Whitt, age 86, also known as “Lib”, “Libby”, or “Liddy” passed away at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 after a short illness. She was born at home on July 29, 1932 in the Firebrick, Ohio area to the late James Walter “Bud” Whitt and Nora Viola (Brofford) Whitt.

She graduated from Blackfork High School in 1950. Following school, she worked in retail in Oak Hill and Jackson for the next 50 plus years. In Oak Hill she worked at Twin Brothers Dept. Store, Gateway Market and Oak Hill Dairy Bar. In Jackson, she worked at the Deering Warehouse Co.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Frances Pearl (Whitt) Brock, Bonnie Juanita (Whitt) Freeland, Geneva Carole (Whitt) Cooper; brother, Robert Lee “Bob” Whitt; and two nephews, David Freeland and Christopher Whitt.

She is survived by her brother, Billy Franklin Whitt and two sisters-in-law, Beverly (Bowles) Whitt and Shirley (Davis) Whitt.

Liddy never married and had no children of her own, but that didn’t mean she didn’t have kids. Kids in the form of many nieces and nephews that she could not have loved more, she was greatly loved in return and will be very much missed by all.

Graveside services for her family and friends will be held 3:30 PM Monday, August 13, 2018 at South Webster Cemetery in South Webster with Rev. Herman Stewart officiating. Online condolences may be sent to www.lewisgillum.com
