Marvin Payne

Marvin S. Payne passed away on October 28th, 2021. Marvin was born December 26th, 1933, in Washington County, Indiana. He was married to Ruby Payne. He is survived by his daughter, Gretchen Payne Peoples (Burt); granddaughter, Alexand Peoples; sister, Janice Whitiker of Bellefontaine, Ohio; and two brothers: Ralph Payne of Fresno, California and John Payne of Salem, Indiana. He was preceded in death by sister, Mary Snelling of Salem, Indiana; and his parents: Willie and Drilla Payne.

He lived in Henryville, Indiana and worked on a 300-acre farm and raised food for the war effort. He was in the army from 1953 to 1955. Then he went to work on the Great Lakes and got his master’s license to become Captain. In 1971, he bought KFCs in Hillsboro, Ohio, Jackson, Ohio, Wellston, Ohio, and Oak Hill, Ohio in which he worked for 48 years. He joined the Lions Club in 1971 and the Elks and Old Car Club. He attended the Church of Christ.  

Calling hours will be held on Monday, November 1st, 2021, from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the Jackson First Church of the Nazarene. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 2nd, 2021, at 1 p.m. at the church with Pastor Stan Howard officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery.
