Marie M. Britt, 84, of Wellston, passed away Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019 at the Jenkins Community Care Center in Wellston. She was born July 7, 1935 in Madison County, NC to the late William Clyde and Gladys Mae Gosnell Shelton.
Marie grew up in the mountains and central part of North Carolina and later in life moved to Hamden, Ohio where she served as a member of City Council and volunteered extensively with the Hamden Schools. She attended the Tick Ridge Church, enjoyed working with crafts and playing Bingo. No matter the holiday or season, her decorations were renowned. She loved Conway Twitty and we’re sure he met her with “Hello, Darlin” as she walked through Heaven’s gates.
Marie met and married her own Elvis Presley, James Robert Britt who preceded her in death. Her main occupation in life was taking care of Marty and Mammaw.
She is survived by son, James “Marty” (Zainab) Britt and granddaughter, Jordyn Skyler Britt, who were the light of her life and always first in her thoughts. Also surviving are brothers and sisters: Lucille Hamilton, Bill Shelton, Bob (Ann) Shelton, Georgia (Ron) Fields and Jack (Marcia) Shelton, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Robert Britt; sister, Agnes Watson; brother-in-law, Robert (Bob) Hamilton; and sister-in-law, Sandy Shelton.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2019 at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home with Rev. James Eberts officiating and burial to follow in the Fairmount Cemetery.
