Lucille Cartwright

Lucille Cartwright, 94, of Dresden, died Sunday June 24 at the Emeritus at North Hills, in Zanesville, OH. She was born November 22, 1917 in Wellston to the late Thomas and Icedora (Taylor) Gilliland. She was the last surviving child of eight.

Lucille moved from Wellston to Dresden in 1959. She was a member of the Dresden United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, having served as a past president. She also taught Sunday School for 23 years, and served on several different committees. She was a member of the Bonnie Longaberger Senior Center and the Dresden Fitness Center.

Lucille is survived by her children, Janet Birkhimer of Fuquay-Varina, NC; Frank (Laura) Cartwright of Nashport; Irvine (Rose) Cartwright of Murphysburg, IL; son-in-law, Wayne Carpenter of Zanesville; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters, as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, of 52 years, Adran P. Cartwright in 1987; daughter, Janice Carpenter in 2008; sisters, Carolyn Waldron, Maxine Winters, Jeanette Vincel, Lula Stevens, Ruth Bragg, andbrothers, Charles Gilliland, Thomas Gilliland, Jr.

Viewing hours will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street, Dresden.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday June 27 at the Dresden United Methodist Church, 1014 Main Street, with Pastor Greg Inboden officiating. Burial will follow at the Dresden Cemetery.
