Katie K. (Kisor) Fout, age 89, of Wellston, passed away on Monday, June 3, 2013 in Newark, OH at SharonBrooke Senior Assistance Facility with her loving family nearby. A longtime resident of Wellston, she had moved to Newark following the death of her husband in December 2011. Born in Wilkesville, OH on May 1, 1924 to the late Charles and Mary Etta Frakes Kisor, she was predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, Earl, in 2011, and her sisters, Annabelle Harvey and Mary Elizabeth Kisor and brothers Joe, Paul, Franklin and Carl Kisor.

Katie is survived by her two sons, Steve (Beth) of Columbus and Terry (Kathie) of Newark; two sisters, Ruth (Tom) Horner and Rosalie Robinson; four grandchildren, Erin (Chad) Harris, Andrew (Heather) Fout, Julia Fout, Ian Fout; five great-grandchildren, Ethan, Avery, Cole, Cayd and Cruz; and her sisters-in-law, Catherine Kisor and Ada Long.

After finishing her studies at Hamden High School, Katie owned a small restaurant in Wellston, worked in a munitions plant in Vinton County, and later worked for General Motors in Columbus. She met Earl in Columbus and they were married in Hamden on August 26, 1950. Earl and Katie moved from Columbus to Wellston shortly after they were married and then moved to Chillicothe where they lived for 4 years. They moved back to Wellston in 1960 where they would live in their house on North Pennsylvania Avenue for the next 51 years. Upon her return to Wellston, Katie worked at the H & R Collins clothing store in Wellston where she would retire in 1977.

Katie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother known as “Babe” to Earl, “Mom” to her sons and their wives, “Sis” to her siblings and above all others, her self-named, “Nanna” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One of her biggest joys was spending time with small children and she stayed busy quilting and crocheting baby gifts for family and friends alike. Katie loved traveling with Earl and their friends and enjoyed expressing her gentle sense of humor by mailing humorous post cards from their many destinations. She was a generous and frequent gift-giver and would often display her humor and love with her gifts and cards, always personal, always thoughtful and always appropriate.

Katie loved cooking for her family and friends and would relish preparing her family specialties. She was an avid and accomplished baker and was awarded several blue ribbons for her apple pies. A member of the First Baptist Church, Katie taught young children in Sunday school, sang in the choir, and, along with Earl, was active in any and all aspects of church activities. She was a proud recipient of the church’s “Mother Of The Year” award in recognition of her many years of church and community service.

Calling hours will be on Friday, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. The service celebrating Katie’s life will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor David McManis officiating. Burial will follow at the Hamden Cemetery.
