Karen Hammond

Karen Hammond, age 70, of Wellston, passed away Sunday, June 10, 2018, at her home. She was born February 12, 1948 in Gallipolis, Ohio, to the late Glendon Hammond and Betty Tucker Hammond.

Karen was a 1966 Wellston High School graduate. Upon her high school graduation, Karen moved to Columbus and obtained a degree from Columbus State Community College. She had various administrative secretary positions throughout her career, but eventually returned to Wellston and worked for 26 years in the law firm of Oths, Heiser, Miller, Waigand & Clagg, LLC.

Karen is survived by her aunts, Ruth Mantz of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Patty Hamer of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Wanda Willis of New Philadelphia, Ohio; aunt and uncle, Peggy and Donald Walton of Wellston, as well as several cousins and friends. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her grandparents, Joseph and Florence Hammond and Howard and Leafy Tucker; uncles, Joseph Mantz, George Willis, Paul McKinniss and Bob Tucker; and aunts, June McKinniss and Marjorie Tucker.

In keeping with Karen’s wishes, there will be no public calling hours. A graveside service will be held, Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at 1 p.m. in the Ridgewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate that contributions in Karen’s name be given to the American Cancer Society, American Cancer Society P.O. Box 22478 Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
