Joyce Louise Martin, 96, passed away early Wednesday morning, July 29, 2020 at Brethren Care Village in Ashland, Ohio. She was born March 13, 1924 to Lawrence Jenkins and Norma Hood Jenkins White in Jackson, Ohio. She graduated from Jackson High School, Class of 1942. That same year, she married Harry Martin, the love of her life and they were married for 56 years until his death in 1997.

Joyce lived most of her life in Jackson, Ohio and will be remembered as an employee of Radio Station WLMJ. She also worked at The Jackson Publishing Company, where she was the editor of a publication, “The Town Crier” and author of a newspaper column, “Round the Town.”

Harry and Joyce owned the Goodyear Tire & Retread store on Main Street in the 60s and 70s. In 1986, they retired to Tempe, Arizona where Joyce remained until 2015. She then moved to Belmont Tower where she was near her family. She enjoyed traveling, camping, playing cards and going on cruises. She especially loved Arizona.

Her survivors include her daughter, Cheryl Kessler of Chillicothe, Ohio; granddaughter, Amy (Tom) Snodgrass, Jr., and her pride and joy, Tyler J. Snodgrass, great-grandson — all of Ashland, Ohio. Also of Ashland is a dear friend, Joe Kessler. She leaves a loving niece, Nancy Clemmons of London, Ohio, and a sister-in-law, Jane White, of Chillicothe, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry C. Martin; a sister, Carolyn Jenkins Colby; and a brother, Art White, along with her parents.

Her family would like to thank the staff at Belmont Tower and Hospice of North Central Ohio.

Per her wishes, her remains will be cremated and the interment of ashes will be at Fairmount Cemetery, at a later date.
