Joseph W. Van Allen, 90, of Wellston, passed away Monday, August 31, 2015 at Maple Hills Nursing Home in McArthur. He was born November 13, 1924 in Columbus, son of the late Marcus Van Allen and Mae Dennison Brown. Joe was married to the late Betty F. Hensler Van Allen.

He was a former painter for Lazarus, a Marine veteran, a Mason and a member of Hope United Methodist Church in Wellston.

Joe is survived by his daughter, Sue Angle of Wellston; granddaughter, Tabatha (Damion) Morse of Rockford, Illinois and great-grandchildren, Malary, Mariah, Maxwell and Myles.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by son, Joseph W. Van Allen Jr. and two half-sisters, Sally and Jo Ann.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 12, 2015 in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High Street, McArthur, with Rev. Damion Morse officiating. Interment will be in Elk Cemetery, McArthur with military graveside services being conducted by the American Legion Post #371 in Wellston. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, September 11, 2015 from 5 to 7 p.m.
