Joseph Reese Saltsman

Joseph Reese Saltsman, age 86, of Wellston, passed away Monday morning, April 4, 2016 at Four Winds Community in Jackson. He was born October 23, 1929 in Wellston, Ohio, the son of the late Fred “Jack” Saltsman and Thelma Pauline Partlow Saltsman.

Joe, a 1949 graduate of Wellston High School, was the former owner and operator of Joe’s Barber Shop in Wellston for over 50 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wellston, the Wellston Senior Citizens and the Black Diamond Lodge #538 F&AM. In his spare time, Joe enjoyed hunting and fishing. In his earlier years, Joe was an avid supporter of all of the sports programs in Wellston.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty J. Cook Saltsman; five sons, David Bruce Saltsman (Kim) of Wellston, Roger Keith Saltsman of Wellston, Timothy Joe Saltsman (Daniel) of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Kirk Dale Saltsman of Greenup, KY, and James Scott Saltsman of Wellston; five grandchildren, Keith Saltsman (Beth), Eric Saltsman, Lindsay Saltsman, Tyler Saltsman (Kala), and Lauren Saltsman; and two great-grandchildren, Lorelei Saltsman and Alanna Matthews. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Besides his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his sister Louise Staten and her husband George, his sister Betty Vickers and her husband Donald, his sister Emma Catherine “Mike” Kisor and her husband Clifford, his brother Ed Saltsman and his wife Joye, his brother Jerry, and his nieces Susan Saltsman, Carolyn Ann Staten and Catherine Elaine Vickers.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor Dave Kelly and Pastor Dick Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgewood Cemetery.
