Joseph Douglas Saunders

Joseph Douglas Saunders, age 73, of Jackson, Ohio, unexpectedly went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2021, at Holzer of Jackson. He was born Jan. 8, 1948, in Mansfield, Ohio to the late Joseph and Della (Ashley) Saunders.

He is survived by his loving wife of over 46 years, Janie (Buchanan) Saunders; his children Michael (Tracy) Saunders, Jason Saunders, and Ashley (John) Hood; grandchildren Noah and Noel Saunders, Dakota Saunders, and Jacob, Nathan, and Joshua Hood; siblings Norma Emerson-Fuchs, Wanda Czechlewski, Mary Howard, Marvin Saunders, and Teresa Schumacher; brothers-in-law Dave Summers and Lary (Marcia) Buchanan; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Anna Summers, and one infant sister.

Joseph was a 1967 graduate of South Webster High School. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. Prior to losing his eyesight, Joseph enjoyed hunting with his brother and his son, Michael. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles and hunting for Indian artifacts. One of his greatest joys was his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.

Calling hours will be held Saturday, Oct. 16, 2021, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. Funeral services will immediately follow at 3 p.m. with Pastor Michael Jadrnicek officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery.
