John D. Brooks

John D. Brooks, 77, of Jackson, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2014, at the Holzer Medical Center – Gallipolis. The son of the late Charles and Wilma Barnhart Brooks, he was born January 14, 1937, at Reedsville, Ohio. John served in the Navy during the Korean War and he was a member of the VFW. He had been employed for 30+ years as a merchant seaman for Crowley Maritime.

John is survived by three daughters, Kari Brooks of Wellston, Kim Penman of New York and Debra Reebenaker of South Carolina; two sons, John (Jennifer) Brooks of New York and Michael; and seven grandchildren, Angel, David Jr., Colin, Christian, Ryan, Meghan and Victoria. His companion, Barb Rayburn and good friend Betysue Gill also survive.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Lee Ochiltree and Judy Niece.

A memorial service will be conducted later at the convenience of the family. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the Huntley & Cremeens Funeral Home of Wellston.
