Joe Cooper

Joe Cooper, age 66, of Oak Hill, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2014. He was born July 10, 1947 in Latty, Ohio to the late Wootz and Ruby (Louderback) Cooper.

Joe was a 1965 graduate of Oak Hill High School. He was a Vietnam Veteran of the United States Air Force from which he retired in 1986 after 20 years of service. He then worked selling and contracting log homes until retiring in 2008 after 22 years of service. Upon his retirement, he took up a love of golf which he played every week with his brother-in-law, Dave Dillon. He was also an avid hunter and enjoyed turkey hunting the most. He shared his lifelong love of fishing with many. He enjoyed taking his grandchildren on his boat and making trips to Myrtle Beach, SC every year with his fishing buddy, Kendal (Gene) Moore. His grandchildren were the light of his life. He was always quick to play a game or make up one of their own fun games to play with them. He was loved by many and had several friends that could always be counted on; Steve Greer, Jim Sims, and Kendal Moore are some of the best.

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Winnie (Coleman) Cooper of Oak Hill, Ohio; his son, Ken (Shannon) Cooper of Wellston, Ohio; his daughter, Mendy (Blaise) Reader of Waverly, Ohio; his grandchildren, Jessica and Josie Cooper, and Kindal and Blaise Reader III.

Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were his brothers, Bob, Gene, Kenny, and Wayne; and sisters, Betty, Donna, and Ruth.

A funeral will be held at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill, Ohio on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 2 p.m. with Carmen Cline officiating. Burial will follow at Horeb Cemetery.
