Jim Mullett

Jim Mullett, age 82, of Wellston, went home to be with his Lord on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born October 12, 1939, in Niagara County, New York to the late Benedict B. Mullett and Fannie Mast Mullett. Jim grew up near Grantsville, Maryland until the age of 12 and then moved with his family to Greenwood, Delaware. Jim served his country as a conscientious objector for 2 ½ years at the Bethesda Hospital in Cincinnati. In 1963, Jim and his wife, Isabel, moved to Jackson, Ohio to pastor Hillside Chapel Church, where he served for 24 years. Jim was also a former employee of Willis-Sellers in Wellston, former CEO of Mullett Family Farms, Inc. in the state of Delaware, and was retired from the United States Postal Service with 22 years of service, having been the rural mail carrier for Rt. 2 in Wellston. Over the years, Jim has been a foster parent for seven children in the Jackson County community. He was a member of the Mennonite Church U.S.A., Christ United Methodist Church in Jackson, and the Jackson Rotary Club. Jim enjoyed woodworking, reading and singing with a barbershop quartet. He also loved studying nature and tending to his “Garden of Eden” on St. Rt. 788.

Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years, Isabel Steckly Mullett; daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Dale Whetsel of Jackson; son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Rose Mullett of Hilliard; grandchildren: Jennifer Burkholder (Michael Phillips), Tyler Midkiff, Tony Romero, Ben Mullett, Exon Romero, Milca Romero, Jacob Romero, Grace Mullett and Jesus Romero; sisters: Ruth Tennefos (David) of Shreve, OH, Martha Brubacher (Floyd) of Stayner, Ontario, Esther Hawk (Clarence) of Seaford, Delaware, Mildred Sherman (Jim) of Greenwood, Delaware and Miriam Boychuk of Kitchener, Ontario; brothers-in-law: Truman Schrock and Tom Robertson, both of Greenwood, Delaware; along with several nieces and nephews. Greeting Jim in Heaven were his parents; son, Wendell Mullett; and siblings: Ernest Mullett, Mary Schrock and Verda Robertson.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, April 20, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. A Celebration of Life service will be Thursday, April 21, at 10 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church in Jackson with Pastor Josh Andrews and Deacon Janie Karl officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairmount Cemetery in Jackson. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions in Jim’s memory be given to: Christ United Methodist Church Feed My Starving Children Fund, 150 Portsmouth Street, Jackson, Ohio 45640.
