James R. Angel

James R. Angel, 79, of Hamden, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2015 at his residence. He was born August 8, 1936 in Vinton County, Ohio, son of the late Edwin and Avonel (Eberts) Angel. Jim retired from the Brinks Corporation after 35 years of service. He was also an evangelist and pastor formerly serving the Petrea Freewill Baptist Church in Jackson until his health required he retire. Jim never knew a stranger and always looked for an opportunity to share the love of God with those around him. He enjoyed “seeing the beauty of God’s handwork” through activities such as fishing and hunting. Most of all, he loved fellowshipping and spending time with his family and friends.

He is sadly missed and survived by his wife, Janice (Riggs) Angel; children, Doug (Roberta) Angel and Jennifer Thornsberry; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Megan, Dustina, Lyssa, Brock, Taylor, and Lydia; four great-grandchildren; brother, Tom Angel; two sisters, Patty (Larry) Wagner and Joann Crabtree; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a son, Dusty Angel and three brothers, Pete Angel, Bob Angel, and Arthur “Pooh” Eberts.

The family will receive friends Sunday, August 23, 2015 at the Puritan Freewill Baptist Church, State Route 160, Hamden, from 3 to 5 p.m. A funeral service celebrating Jim’s life will follow in the Church at 5:00 p.m. with Pastor Jamie Fortner and Pastor Paul Ratliff officiating.
