James “Jim” Harrison Smith, Jr.

James “Jim” Harrison Smith, Jr., age 65, of Oak Hill, went to be with the Lord on Dec. 6, 2017 surrounded by family and close friends at Riverside Hospital from a battle with brain cancer. He was born April 15, 1952 in Chillicothe to the late James H. Sr. and Dorothy (Bloom) Smith.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Ann Sorrells and a brother-in-law, Jeff Keppner.

Jim was a member of the Church of Christ of Latter Day Saints in Jackson and a member of the U.S. Air Force. He retired from General Mills of Wellston after 35 years. He was also former Scout Master of Troop 42.

He is survived by his wife, Kay (McGowan) Smith, whom he married on Aug. 25, 1979; daughter, Janice (Steve) Hughes, of Oak Hill; grandchildren, Kayla (Scott) Bartram, of Portsmouth and William (Grace) Swords, of Wellston; great grandchildren, Skylar Ann Bartram, Justine Noel Swords, Collin James Swords and Noah Lee Stacey. Also surviving are his two sisters, Kathy Keppner, of Galloway and Marie Smith, of Chauncey; a former son-in-law, William Swords and a special grandson, Adam Kamer.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11, 2017 at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill with Elder Bryant Wolford and Pastor Dave Steiger officiating. Burial will follow in C.M. Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
