James E. Yates

James E. Yates, M.D., age 61, originally from Jackson, passed away Friday, May 10, 2013 in Branson, Missouri. He was born September 7, 1951 to the late Homer and Verva (Noore) Yates. He graduated from Jackson High School in 1969. James then graduated with honors and received his Bachelors Degree in Biology/Chemistry from Ohio University in 1981. He then attended Wright State University and graduated in 1986 with a Doctor of Medicine degree.

James completed his residency at Marshall University Hospital, where he conducted research for the university’s school of medicine in the area of primary care. He spent several years practicing medicine in underprivileged areas of West Virginia before relocating and opening a private practice clinic in Talkeetna, Alaska, where he practiced family medicine, conducted flight physicals and worked with Denali National Park officials conducting physicals for Mt. McKinley climbers. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed big game hunting, fishing, trapping and piloting his private plane in Alaska with his sheepdog companion, Penny.

He is survived by daughter, Jennifer Lori (Michael) Keeton of Jackson, OH; granddaughters, Kristen Keeton of Jackson, OH and Felicia (Eric) McKown of Leon, West Virginia; four great-grandchildren; brother, John (Bonnie) Tindall of Jackson, OH; and sisters, Mary (Carl) Swann of Jackson, OH and Fern Dulaney of Oak Hill, OH.

A public graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at the Fairmount Cemetery in Jackson. Online condolences can be sent to www.lewisgillumfuneralhomes.com.
