Jack Calloway, age 93, of Jackson, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at Jenkins Care Community in Wellston, Ohio. He was born Aug. 5, 1925 in New Richmond, Ohio to the late John Orville Calloway and Alta Mae (Gragg) Calloway.
Jack was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Navy from 1943-1945. During his tour of duty, he participated in the invasion of Normandy on June 10, 1944. Jack worked for Henry’s Grocery Co. in Jackson for 32 years as a truck driver. After Henry’s closed, Jack was self-employed as a guard for Merillat Industries. Upon his retirement, Jack was the primary caregiver for his wife until her passing in 2004. He attended the First Baptist Church in Jackson, where he leaves behind many close friends.
Jack was known for his friendly smile and his ability to tell jokes. He loved to laugh and make others laugh also. Jack was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed his morning breakfasts at Bob Evans and then going to walk at Wal-Mart, where he made many friends.
Jack is survived by his three daughters, Pamela (Gary) Richards of Myrtle Beach, SC, Beverly (Dan) Moore of Jackson and Dawn (Brian) Marks of Chillicothe. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Michele (Michael) Turner, Christina (Tony) Castina, Scott (Amy) Moore, Stephen Moore and Christian Marks; great-grandchildren, Kyle Turner, Garrett Turner, Allison Castina, Nick Castina, Taggart Moore, Hannah Moore, Andrew Moore, Jordan Moore and Braxton Moore. Jack also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews and countless friends.
Besides his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Thelma Marie (Miller) Calloway; his sisters and their husbands, Agnes (Wayne) Gragg, Marelle (Harvey) Osborne, and Pauline (Dixon) Clark; and his brother, Ernest Calloway.
Calling hours will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Keeton of the First Baptist Church in Jackson officiating. Burial, with military honors by D.A.V. Jackson County Chapter 45 and the United States Navy, will follow in the Fairmount Cemetery in Jackson.
