Ivan Neal Potter

Ivan Neal Potter, age 62, passed away after a short illness at the Ohio State James Hospital on Sunday, January 17, 2016 at 12:40 p.m. He was a farmer and a retired coal miner from Southern Ohio Coal. He was born on November 30, 1953 in Jackhorn, Kentucky to Janice (Tolliver) Potter and the late Owen Potter. He graduated from Crooksville High School in 1972. He was a member of Pyro Church of Christ, in Jackson Co. He was also a member of the Jackson Co. Cattleman’s Association and the Ohio Farmer’s Club.

Right Worshipful Brother, Ivan was a 32 degree Mason, a past master of the Portland Lodge #366 and an honorary member of many other lodges. He was a past District Education Officer and past District Deputy Grand Master of the magnificent 12th Masonic District. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus and Valley of Gallipolis.

He was married to Carol (Canter) Potter on August 25, 1972, and to this union they were born two sons, Ryan and Brandon Potter. He was preceded in death by his father, Owen Potter, his beloved son, Ryan and mother and father-in-law, James and Evelene Swann Canter.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; son, Brandon; grandsons, Eli and Evan Potter; daughter-in-law, Becki Snyder; brothers and sisters, Allen (Connie) Potter, Clyde (Ruthie) Potter, Diana (Jim) Sims, Greg (Carla) Potter, Loretta “Carol” Potter, Rhonda (Danny) Butler; special nieces and nephews, Breanna and Taylor Butler and Valerie Hubbard. He is also survived by a host of Masonic brothers; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joan and Lisle Dill, Jack and Cindy Adkins and Jerry Canter; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 21, 2016 at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill with Pastor Bob Fellure officiating. Burial will follow in C.M. Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday, January 20, 2016 from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A masonic service will be performed at 7 p.m.
