Homer F. “Buddy” Jayjohn, age 79, of Wellston, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2014, while gardening at his home, and then was taken to the Holzer Medical Center ER in Jackson, Ohio. He was born December 10, 1934 in Athens, County, Ohio to the late Ovid E. Jayjohn, Sr. and Beatrice Viola Strausbaugh Jayjohn.
Buddy was a 1953 graduate of Wellston High School, where he was a member of the 1951 Championship 10-0 Wellston Golden Rockets football team. He was a veteran of the Unites States Army, having served during the Korean War. Buddy was a member of the Carpenters Union for 50 years, the American Legion Post 371 of Wellston and attended the Emmanuel House of Refuge. He was a workaholic who enjoyed gardening, puttering on his lawnmower and spending time with his family. Buddy was a Godly man, reading the Word of God every day.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Phyllis J. Browning Jayjohn; children, Jann (Ron) Ratcliff of Jackson, Amber Jayjohn of Gallipolis, Curtiss (Michele) Jayjohn of Jackson, Bobbette (David) Darling of Marietta and Autumn (Tony) Walker of Wellston; grandchildren: Ryan, Tami, Jeremiah, Erick, Barrett, Hannah, Danielle, who he called “his bestest friend in the whole wide world”, Ambrosia and Cash; great-grandchildren, Sami, Lindsay, Jenna, Brynn, Aidan, Lennon and Cash, Jr.; brother-in-law, Ray (Jo) Watts of Florida; sister-in-law, Gail Jayjohn of Miamisburg, as well as several nieces and nephews, including special nephew, Eddie (Julie) Jayjohn of Miamisburg.
Besides his parents, Buddy was preceded in death by his brother, Junie Jayjohn and nephews, Evan Jayjohn and Eric Jayjohn.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Will Gillum officiating and military honors by the American Legion Post 371 of Wellston.
