Herbert E. Ponn

Herbert E. Ponn, age 77, of Wellston, passed away Monday, April 3, 2017 at Four Winds Community in Jackson, Ohio. He was born July 2, 1939 in Ewington, Ohio to the late Francis L. Ponn and Gladyse Marie Reed Ponn.

Herb was a 1957 graduate of Wilton High School and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He retired from the State of Ohio Department of Transportation where he was employed for 35 years. Herb was a member of the Orphans Friend Masonic Lodge #265 in Wilkesville and was an avid sports fan.

He is survived by daughter, Teresa Ponn Lemaster (James) of Wellston; son, Deron Ponn (Kathy) of Blacklick, Ohio; five grandchildren, Leah Bunnell Simpson (Cole), Lane Bunnell, Ken Lemaster, Cassie Wilson (Sean) and Danielle Mehl; two great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Wilson and Madyson Mehl; as well as good friends, Hank and Brenda Branscomb of Wellston and several in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Besides his parents, Herb was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Geraldine A. “Gerry” Ponn; brothers, Donald Ponn and Clair Ponn; and sisters, Frances Coffrin and Alice Mae Dodrill.

In keeping with Herb’s wishes, his body was cremated. A memorial graveside service, with military honors, will be held Sunday, April 9, 2017 at 3 p.m. at Salem Cemetery in Wellston with Pastor Barry Benson officiating. Masonic services by the Orphans Friend Lodge #265 will be held at the beginning of the graveside service.
