Henry Alfred Zinn

Henry Alfred Zinn, age 92, of Hamden, passed away Friday, March 4, 2016, in the long-term care facility at the VA Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio. He was born November 4, 1923 in Radcliff, Ohio to the late Charles and Elizabeth Pierce Zinn.

Henry was a 1941 graduate of Wilton Local School. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, and was one of four surviving WW II veterans in Vinton County. Henry fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was a POW. He was a former employee of Frick-Gallagher Manufacturing; owner and operator of Henry’s Used Car’s and Zinn’s Sanitation, and was a keen farmer. Henry enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and his dogs.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Thelma Faye Woodruff Zinn; sons and daughters-in-law, William “Bill” and Jane Zinn of Hamden, Jerry and Sara Zinn of McArthur and John and Tessa Zinn of McArthur; son-in-law, Donald Staten of Hamden; grandchildren, Terri Forshey, Chad Zinn, Jim Zinn, Liz Zinn, Jennifer Bauer, Levi Zinn, Seth Zinn and Chris Zinn; sister, Audrey Collins of Hamden, as well as eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Henry was preceded in death by his daughter, Lorraine “Renie” Staten; grandsons, Sean Zinn and Billy Zinn; sister, Zelma Murray, and brothers, Charles, Albert, Woodrow and Ernest.

Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor Dave Kelly officiating. Burial will follow in the Hamden Cemetery with military honors by the V.F.W. Post 5299 of McArthur.
