Floyd F. Hollberg

Floyd F. Hollberg, age 94, of Wellston, passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at the Jenkins Care Community in Wellston. He was born December 17, 1918 in Coalton, Ohio, the son of the late Albert L. Hollberg and Mary E. Nagle Hollberg.

Floyd was a 1936 graduate of Wellston High School and was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during WW II. Floyd retired from the United States Postal Service, having served as Postmaster for Wellston for 19 years. He was also employed as a tool maker at Frick-Gallagher Manufacturing in Wellston for a total of 22 years.

Floyd was the former Mayor for the City of Wellston from 1950 to 1953; former Treasurer for the City of Wellston; member of the Wellston City School District Board of Education from 1960 to 1969; longtime member of the Hope United Methodist Church in Wellston; member of the Black Diamond Lodge #538 for 63 years, having received his 50 year pin on Nov. 17, 2000; member of the American Legion Post 371 of Wellston; lifetime member of the Jackson County DAV Chapter 45; member of the Wellston Historical Association and the Wellston Senior Citizens. One of Floyd’s favorite pastimes was socializing with his friends at the Pizza Pub in Wellston.

He is survived by his wife of over 71 years, Laura Mae Ankrom Hollberg; daughter and son-in-law, Jo Ellen and George Jacubec of Wellston; three grandchildren, Michael Jacubec, Corey Rodriguez and Tina Stroud, all of Texas; four great-grandchildren, Cole, Paul, Gabriel and Roman, as well as a host of friends.

Calling hours will be Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Vinson officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgewood Cemetery.
