Farinda (Blackburn) Miller

Farinda (Blackburn) Miller, age 98, of Jackson, Ohio was called home to be with her Lord on Sunday, November 29, 2015 at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. Farinda was born on November 8, 1917 in Endicott, Kentucky to the late Gordie and Mellie (Bush) Blackburn. Farinda was married on April 20, 1939 to the late Merlin Miller in Endicott, Kentucky. Farinda and Merlin were married more than 35 years before Merlin’s death in 1975.

Farinda is survived by her only daughter, Norma Sue Mullins of Jackson, Ohio; brother, Trevert Blackburn of Prestonsburg, Kentucky; sisters: Gertrude (Joe) Garret and Bonnie (Jackie) Scalf of Prestonsburg, Kentucky; sister-in-law, Margaret Blackburn of Prestonsburg, Kentucky; nine grandchildren: Linda (John) Dailey, Jerry (Jody) Mullins, Jeff (Leslie) Mullins, Mike (Kim) Mullins, Erik (Amy) Mullins, Bob (Robyn) Miller, Julie (Jim) Popp, Brian (Barbie) Miller, and Jamie (Melissa) Miller; 17 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; four step great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews; as well as many friends and neighbors.

In addition to her parents and husband, Farinda was preceded in death by her only son, Troy Miller; siblings and spouses: Delmar (Annie) Blackburn, Thelmar (Lanie) Blackburn, John Blackburn, Cora Blackburn, Troy (Arita) Blackburn, Margie (Grover) Spears, and Tom Ed Blackburn; also a great-great-grandchild, Corey Dailey.

Farinda lived alone in her own home until a few weeks ago. This matriarch of the Miller family was known to all as a dedicated, faithful, and selfless woman whose concern for her family and friends far outweighed her concern for herself.

Farinda spent her final days praising Jesus and witnessing to family, friends, and all who came in contact with her. She’ll be rejoicing with her Lord, her family, and friends in heaven awaiting all of us to join her.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Allie Skaggs officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.
