Evan Isaac “Ike” Brookins

Evan Isaac “Ike” Brookins, age 81, of Jackson, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020 at his daughter’s home in Hilliard, Ohio surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 16, 1938 a son of the late Edmund C. and Ida C. (Williams) Brookins. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Anna Jean (Leonard) Brookins of Oak Hill, Ohio. Anna passed away Nov. 30, 2018. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in October of 2018.

 Ike was a graduate of Jackson High School in the Class of 1956. He spent most of his working life in printing, starting at Mourning’s in Jackson. After he and his family moved to Columbus, he began a 35-year career at The Ohio State University. He also helped a longtime friend start his own printing business, Bindery and Specialties in Plain City, Ohio. Ike and Anna moved from Columbus to Hilliard during that time, where they lived until Ike retired in 1993. Ike loved high school marching bands and drum and bugle corps and attended many local, state, and national competitions. After retirement he and Anna moved back to Oak Hill, Ohio. They attended both the Old Country Church Tabernacle and Winchester Community Church.

 Ike is survived by his son, Dennis (Pamm) Brookins of Hilliard, Ohio; a daughter, Cheryl (Jim) Shanks of Hilliard, Ohio; four grandchildren: Ashley Shanks of Hilliard, Ohio, Jillianne (Jon) Stephens of Hilliard, Eric (Jessica) Brookins of Dublin, Ohio, and Brandon (Tricia) Brookins of Hilliard, Ohio; 11 great-grandchildren: Nevaeh, Jackson, Jett, Jeric, Jorja, Jaely, Claire, Andrew, David, Lilly, and Isaac; a sister, Joyce (Lonnie) McGhee of  Belleville, Ohio; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

 In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Edmund Wayne Brookins.

 Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2020 from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2 p.m. with Rev.
