Donald Eugene Tobert, Sr.

Donald Eugene Tobert, Sr., age 78, went home to be with Jesus at his home with family on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017. He was born Oct. 5, 1938 in Oak Hill, Ohio to the late John and Marie (Canter) Tobert. He was a graduate of Oak Hill High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army.

On March 19, 1966, Don married the love of his life, Eleanor Perry and they enjoyed 50 years together. Their home was blessed with six children — four daughters: Theresa (Pat) Pratt, Penny (Allen) Wilkerson, Doddie (David) Cochran, and Carla (Jay) Sharp; and two sons: Perry (Laura) Tobert and Donald (Angie) Tobert. Also surviving are three grandsons: Joshua and Jordan Roe, and Tyler (Jeyra) Hickman; five granddaughters: Caylie, Alli, Morgan, Kaylin, and Payton and one great-grandson, Jace Michael Hickman; one sister, Carrie Miller Patton of Columbus, Ohio; and he is also survived and loved by several nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor; daughter, Ellen; parents, John and Marie (Canter) Tobert; four brothers: John, Ralph, Robert, and Emil; and one sister, Wilma (Dutchie) Tobert.

Don and Eleanor attended the Welcome Chapel Church for many years.

“A special thank you to the girls of Heartland Hospice for their wonderful care and many smiles they brought to our hearts and home,” a family member said.

Services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017 at 5 p.m. at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill with Pastor Roy McCarty officiating. Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. prior to the service on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017 at the funeral home. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
