Delbert Ashton

Delbert L. Ashton II, aka “Sonny,” of Jackson, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 3, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born August 11, 1957, in Zanesville, Ohio to Delbert L. Ashton Sr. (who survives) and the late Bernice Roll. 

He is survived by his wife of almost 33 years, Pamela K. Ashton; daughter, Brandy (John) Paynter, of Zanesville; two sons: DJ (Amanda) Ashton, of Zanesville and Christopher and Jennifer Owens, of Jackson. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; several great grandchildren; four sisters; one brother; and his father, Delbert Sr. (Reida) Ashton, of California. In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by his grandson, Dylan A. Paynter, of Zanesville.   

Sonny graduated from Tri Valley High School in Dresden, Ohio. He then started his life working both in the coal mines and with the coal mines. He then was the owner and operator of S&P Contractors. He traveled the country and made friends all over at this job chasing drag lines. He was a hard worker his whole life, he had a heart of gold and was always willing to help anyone in need. He was a social butterfly and had friends everywhere. Anyone who knew him knew he was never wrong. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge since 1992.

At his request, his body will be cremated. A celebration of life will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. Online condolences may be sent to www.lewisgillum.com
