Dan Hamilton Lockard, Sr.

Dan Hamilton Lockard, Sr., age 85, of Wellston, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2013, at the Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis, Ohio. He was born February 3, 1928 in Wellston, Ohio to the late Arthur J. Lockard and Anna Maude Thomas Lockard.

Dan was a 1947 graduate of Wellston High School and a 1952 graduate of Wilmington College, where he received both a Bachelor of Education degree and a Bachelor of Science degree. He then went on to receive a Masters degree in Entomology from the Ohio State University. Dan was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during WW II. He was a former entomologist for the J.I. Holcomb Research Lab in Indianapolis, Indiana and then in 1957, he started the Wellston Aerosol Plant.

Dan served on the Selective Service Board for several years and the Wellston City School District Board of Education for 13 years. He was a member of the Hope United Methodist Church in Wellston; the American Legion Post 371 of Wellston and a member of the North Park Blue Lodge #646 F&AM, the Scottish Rite Valley of Indiana and the Murat Shriners for over 50 years. He was also a member of the Groundhog’s Club; the Archaeological Society of Ohio, and the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration.

Dan is survived by his wife of 66 years, Norma Mae Kisor Lockard; children, Carol Rupert of Wellston, Dan (Sharon) Lockard of Wellston, Susan (Roger) Brandeberry of Gallipolis and Tad Lockard of Wellston; sisters-in-law, Jackie Lockard of Wellston, Pauline Geer of Wellston, Virginia (Pete) Patterson of Cincinnati and Donna Kisor of Wellston; brother-in-law, Roy (Jean) Kisor of Missouri, as well as 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Paul John Rupert; brother, Tom Lockard, and brothers-in-law, Jake Kisor and Merrill Geer.

Calling hours were set for Tuesday, June 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston with a Masonic service following at 8 p.m. Funeral service was to be Wednesday, June 19 at 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Minister Terry Geer officiating. Burial was to follow in the Ridgewood Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Post 371 of Wellston and representatives of the United States Navy.
