Carl Rodney McCorkle

Carl Rodney McCorkle, age 78, passed away Friday, October 17, 2014 at Four Winds Community after an extended illness. He was born October 30, 1935 in Oak Hill, Ohio, the son of the late Carl E. and Ethel M. (Martin) McCorkle.

Rodney was a 1953 graduate of Oak Hill High School. He served two years in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Rodney was a life member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers for 60 years. He was a respected bricklayer and builder. He began McCorkle Masonry Construction Company in 1966. He was a hard worker and truly blessed to earn his living doing what he loved. He enjoyed the outdoors and nature. His hobbies were farming, fishing, traveling with his wife and being with his children and grandchildren.

Rodney was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Oak Hill. He was a 57-year member of the Masonic Order, Past Master of Portland Lodge #366, member of Aladdin Shriners and The Scottish Rite, Past Patron of Eastern Star and was a recipient of the Rainbow for Girls Grand Cross of Color.

Rodney is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judith Ann (Cheatwood) McCorkle; children, Melissa (Kevin) Barnett of Upper Arlington, Ohio, Brad (Martha) McCorkle of Jackson, Ohio, and Ward Malone of Beavercreek, Ohio; grandchildren, Nathan, Stephen, and Brian Barnett, Mitchell, Mallory, and Marcie McCorkle, Frank Malone, Christina (Justin) Schubach; and great-grandson, Aiden Schubach; brothers, Paul (Marsha) McCorkle, James (Vera) McCorkle of Oak Hill, Ohio and Martin McCorkle of Athens, Ohio; sisters, Baeotta (Rock) Sgarro of Beavercreek, Ohio and Jenalys Hardy of Palm Coast, Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were his brothers, Donald, Homer and Olen McCorkle; and sisters, Gilda McCorkle, Blodwyn Goldman, Marge Ondera, and Glenna LeGrand.

Friends may call on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 from 4 to 7:30 p.m. with a Masonic service beginning at 7:30 at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. A service will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Pat King officiating. Burial will be at C.M. Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
